Martand Singh of Rewa

Martand Singh, as the ruling Maharaja of Rewa, signed the Instrument of Accession, merging the princely state with the Dominion of India. This ended Rewa's sovereignty and integrated it into the Indian Union.

Martand Singh expanded the white tiger breeding program initiated by his father, Gulab Singh. He sent white tigers to zoos worldwide, increasing their global visibility and contributing to conservation efforts, though inbreeding raised ethical concerns.

Following the Indian government's abolition of privy purses and princely privileges, Martand Singh lost his official status and financial entitlements. This marked the end of the Rewa royal family's formal political and economic power.
