Tuman Bay II

Following the death of Qansuh al-Ghawri at Marj Dabiq, Tuman Bay II was proclaimed Sultan of the Mamluk Sultanate in Cairo. He inherited a realm in crisis, with the Ottoman army advancing into Syria.

Tuman Bay II led the Mamluk army against the Ottoman forces of Selim I at Ridaniya near Cairo. The Mamluks were defeated, and Cairo fell to the Ottomans. Tuman Bay fled but was captured shortly after.

After his capture, Tuman Bay II was hanged by order of Ottoman Sultan Selim I at the Zuwayla Gate in Cairo. This execution marked the end of the Mamluk Sultanate and the incorporation of Egypt into the Ottoman Empire.
