Philip of Artois

Philip of Artois inherited the County of Artois upon the death of his father Robert II of Artois. He became a prominent noble in northern France and a key military commander for King Philip IV.

Philip of Artois commanded the French army at the Battle of Furnes against the Flemish forces. He was mortally wounded during the fighting and died from his injuries shortly after the battle, which ended in a French victory.
