Ashikaga steward, killed by Tadayoshi faction.
Moronao commanded Ashikaga forces at the Battle of Minatogawa against the loyalist forces of Nitta Yoshisada and Kusunoki Masashige. The Ashikaga victory led to the fall of the Kenmu Restoration and the establishment of the Northern Court.
Kō no Moronao was appointed as shitsuji (steward) to Ashikaga Takauji, becoming his chief military commander. This position made him one of the most powerful figures in the early Ashikaga shogunate.
Moronao became involved in a power struggle with Ashikaga Tadayoshi, Takauji's brother. This conflict escalated into open warfare, dividing the Ashikaga shogunate and weakening its authority.
Kō no Moronao was killed in battle by forces loyal to Ashikaga Tadayoshi during the Kannō disturbance. His death marked the end of the conflict but left the Ashikaga shogunate weakened by internal strife.
