King Gyeongjong of Joseon

King Gyeongjong ascended the throne in poor health and reigned for only four years. His reign was dominated by intense factional strife between the Noron and Soron factions, who fought over succession and policy, leading to political paralysis.

Gyeongjong died without a male heir, leading to a succession crisis. His death paved the way for his half-brother, Prince Yeoning (later King Yeongjo), to ascend the throne, which intensified factional conflicts over legitimacy.
