Kanini

Kanini ruled as king of Kasanje, controlling the Kwango valley trade routes. His kingdom profited from the slave trade and ivory commerce, becoming a major intermediary between the interior and the coast.

Kanini's forces engaged in conflicts with Portuguese colonial troops seeking to control the Kwango valley. The Kasanje kingdom successfully resisted Portuguese encroachment, maintaining its independence.

Kanini died around 1750, ending his reign over Kasanje. His kingdom continued to thrive as a regional power until the 19th century, when it was eventually absorbed into Portuguese Angola.
