Guama

Guama organized a Taino rebellion against Spanish colonizers in eastern Cuba. He led attacks on Spanish settlements and encomiendas, freeing indigenous laborers and resisting Spanish attempts to subjugate the Taino population.

Guama was killed in a Spanish ambush while leading his rebellion. His death ended the organized Taino resistance in Cuba, allowing the Spanish to consolidate control over the island. He is remembered as a symbol of Cuban indigenous resistance.
