Home Army commander who tried to cover his tracks, shot.
Fromm, as commander of the Replacement Army, was aware of the conspiracy to assassinate Hitler. After the bomb failed to kill Hitler, Fromm attempted to distance himself by ordering the execution of key conspirators, including Stauffenberg, at the Bendlerblock in Berlin.
Despite his efforts to cover his tracks, Fromm was arrested by the Gestapo, tried by the People's Court, and sentenced to death for cowardice. He was executed by firing squad on March 12, 1945, in Brandenburg an der Havel.
