Firmus of Mauretania

Firmus, a Moorish prince, led a major revolt against Roman rule in the province of Mauretania Caesariensis (modern Algeria). He exploited local grievances against Roman taxation and corruption, gaining widespread support among Berber tribes.

The Roman general Theodosius the Elder was sent to suppress Firmus's rebellion. After a series of campaigns, Theodosius cornered Firmus, who committed suicide to avoid capture, ending the revolt.
