Castus the Gladiator

Castus was among the gladiators who escaped from the school of Lentulus Batiatus in Capua. He became a commander in the slave revolt.

Castus was killed when Crassus's legions attacked and destroyed his splinter force at Cantenna. The defeat occurred shortly before the final battle at the Siler River.

Castus and Gannicus led a splinter group of about 12,000-35,000 rebels that separated from Spartacus's main force. They were defeated by Crassus near the Lucanian Lake, possibly at a place called Cantenna.
