Burhan Nizam Shah I

Burhan Nizam Shah I officially adopted Shia Islam as the state religion of Ahmadnagar, breaking from the Sunni tradition of the Bahmani sultanates. This shift aligned Ahmadnagar with the Safavid Empire and altered Deccan religious politics.

Burhan Nizam Shah I fought a war against the Adil Shahi dynasty of Bijapur over territorial disputes. The conflict ended inconclusively but demonstrated the sectarian tensions between Shia Ahmadnagar and Sunni Bijapur.

Burhan Nizam Shah I invited Persian scholars, poets, and administrators to his court, promoting Persian language and culture in Ahmadnagar. This patronage strengthened cultural ties with the Safavid Empire and influenced Deccan courtly traditions.
