Bhupal Singh of Udaipur

Bhupal Singh succeeded his father Fateh Singh as Maharana of Mewar. He inherited a princely state with a long history of resistance to external rule, but under British paramountcy. His reign focused on modernization and integration with India.

Bhupal Singh signed the Instrument of Accession, integrating Mewar into the Dominion of India after independence. He was among the first princely rulers to accede, setting an example for other states and ensuring a smooth transition.

Bhupal Singh established the Vidya Bhavan Society in Udaipur to promote education and culture. The society founded schools and colleges, contributing to literacy and higher education in the region.

Bhupal Singh died in 1955. He was remembered for his pragmatic leadership during the integration of princely states into India and his contributions to education and social reform in Mewar.
