Alara of Kush

Alara of Kush unified the fragmented Nubian chiefdoms around the holy mountain of Jebel Barkal, establishing the Napatan dynasty. He initiated the process of centralization that would lead to the Kushite conquest of Egypt, though he did not rule Egypt himself.

Alara consolidated control over the Napatan region, securing the loyalty of local chiefs and establishing a stable succession. His reign laid the political and religious foundations for the later Kushite empire, with Jebel Barkal as its spiritual center.
