Zuo Guangdou

Zuo Guangdou was appointed Censor-in-Chief of the Ming dynasty, a high-ranking position responsible for investigating official misconduct. He used his office to expose corruption and oppose the growing influence of eunuch Wei Zhongxian.

During Wei Zhongxian's purge of the Donglin faction, Zuo Guangdou was arrested by the Eastern Depot. He was imprisoned and subjected to torture, as Wei sought to eliminate all officials who had opposed his rise to power.

Zuo Guangdou died in prison as a result of torture inflicted by Wei Zhongxian's agents. His death was part of a broader massacre of Donglin officials that decimated the faction and solidified Wei's control over the Ming court.
