Tundu Lissu

Lissu was elected to the Tanzanian Parliament as a CHADEMA representative for Singida East. He became known for his outspoken criticism of government corruption and human rights abuses, often using parliamentary privilege to challenge the ruling CCM party.

Lissu was shot multiple times by unknown gunmen outside his home in Dodoma, Tanzania. He survived after undergoing extensive medical treatment in Kenya and Belgium. The attack was widely condemned as an attempt to silence a vocal opposition critic of President John Magufuli's government.

Lissu ran as the CHADEMA candidate in Tanzania's presidential election against John Magufuli. He campaigned from exile in Belgium after the assassination attempt. Official results gave Magufuli 84% and Lissu 13%. Lissu rejected the results, citing irregularities.
