Parliamentary democracy advocate, assassinated.
Song Jiaoren was elected to the provisional senate of the Republic of China after the Xinhai Revolution. He advocated for a parliamentary system to limit the power of President Yuan Shikai, promoting democratic governance.
Song Jiaoren merged several revolutionary groups to form the Kuomintang, a major political party. He aimed to secure a parliamentary majority to check Yuan Shikai's authoritarian rule, advancing constitutional government.
Song Jiaoren was shot at Shanghai railway station and died two days later. The assassination was widely attributed to Yuan Shikai's agents, as Song's KMT had won the parliamentary elections. His death triggered the Second Revolution against Yuan.
