Mostafa Madbouly

Madbouly's government continued the IMF-backed economic reform program, including subsidy cuts, tax increases, and currency floatation. These measures aimed to stabilize the economy but led to inflation and public hardship.

Madbouly was appointed Prime Minister of Egypt by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, succeeding Sherif Ismail. He was tasked with overseeing economic reforms and infrastructure projects, including the new administrative capital.

Madbouly, as an urban planner, launched a comprehensive national urban development plan aimed at creating new cities, upgrading slums, and expanding infrastructure. The plan included the construction of the New Administrative Capital east of Cairo.

Madbouly led Egypt's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, implementing lockdowns, curfews, and vaccination campaigns. The measures slowed infection rates but faced criticism for economic impact and healthcare system strain.
