Lhendup Dorji

Lhendup Dorji was appointed Prime Minister of Bhutan following the assassination of his brother Jigme Palden Dorji. His tenure was brief, lasting only a few months, as he faced opposition from conservative factions within the royal court.

During his brief premiership, Lhendup Dorji pushed for constitutional reforms to limit monarchical power and establish a parliamentary system. His proposals were rejected, contributing to his downfall and the subsequent strengthening of absolute monarchy.

Lhendup Dorji was forced into exile after losing a power struggle with the monarchy and conservative elites. He settled in Nepal and later India, where he remained a critic of the Bhutanese government until his death.
