Siles Reyes founded the Nationalist Party (Partido Nacionalista) in Bolivia, which advocated for nationalist economic policies and social reforms. The party became a vehicle for his political ambitions and influenced Bolivian politics.

Hernando Siles Reyes was elected president of Bolivia, serving from 1926 to 1930. His presidency was marked by efforts to modernize the economy and infrastructure, but also by growing political instability and the onset of the Great Depression.

Siles Reyes was overthrown by a military coup led by General Carlos Blanco Galindo. The coup was prompted by economic crisis and political unrest, ending his presidency prematurely.
