Young UP CM, son of Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Akhilesh Yadav was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh at the age of 38, leading the Samajwadi Party to a decisive victory. He became the youngest CM of the state, promising development and good governance.
Yadav initiated the Lucknow Metro Rail project, a major urban infrastructure development. The project aimed to improve public transportation in the state capital and was completed in phases, becoming a key achievement of his tenure.
A power struggle between Akhilesh Yadav and his father Mulayam Singh Yadav led to a split in the Samajwadi Party. Akhilesh emerged as the leader, but the infighting weakened the party ahead of the 2017 Uttar Pradesh elections.
Yadav's Samajwadi Party suffered a heavy defeat in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, winning only 47 seats. The BJP won a landslide victory under Yogi Adityanath, ending Yadav's tenure as CM.
Yadav forged an alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party for the 2019 general elections to counter the BJP. The alliance won 15 seats in Uttar Pradesh, but fell short of expectations and later dissolved.
