Temüjin defeated and united the warring Mongol and Tatar tribes under his leadership at a kurultai (assembly) on the Onon River. He was proclaimed Genghis Khan (Universal Ruler), founding the Mongol Empire and establishing a unified legal code, the Yassa.
Genghis Khan launched a campaign against the Western Xia (Tangut) kingdom, forcing its submission after a siege of its capital. This conquest provided resources and a strategic base for further expansion into China and Central Asia.
After a trade caravan was massacred by the Khwarezmian Shah, Genghis Khan invaded the Khwarezmian Empire with a massive army. He destroyed cities like Samarkand and Bukhara, and the empire collapsed, extending Mongol rule into Persia.

Each figure is scored on 6 dimensions (0—100 scale) based on structured historical data: Military (10%), Political (20%), Influence (20%), Legacy (20%), Leadership (15%), Strategy (15%). The weighted total produces the final ranking.
Scores are computed from structured sub-indicators in the database. Scale factors adjust for era (Ancient ×0.85, Modern ×1.0) and civilization size (Eastern ×1.05, Other ×0.80) to account for differences in population and military scale.
Comparisons are limited to 2—3 figures to ensure readability and statistical meaningfulness.
±5 points per dimension — Sub-scores are derived from historical records with inherent uncertainty. Two figures within 5 points on a dimension should be considered roughly equivalent in that area.
±3 points overall — The weighted combination of 6 dimensions produces a total score with approximately ±3 points of uncertainty. Differences of less than 3 points are not statistically significant— the figures are effectively tied.
Okay so Genghis absolutely crushes Parakramabahu in military, no contest there. 98 vs 62 is about right. But am I the only one who thinks the political score is kinda wack? Parakramabahu gets 84 for uniting Sri Lanka, which is like unifying a medium-sized island. Genghis united dozens of warring tribes AND conquered half the known world. Yeah his succession was messy, but show me one medieval empire that didn't have that problem. I watched this documentary on the Mongol Empire that said Genghis's legal code (Yassa) was actually ahead of its time. Plus the Silk Road thing under his successors—that's both influence AND political smarts. Anyway, cool comparison, but I feel like the scoring favors regional kings over world-changers a bit too much. Still, Parakramabahu sounds like a fascinating figure I need to read more about!
