Archibald Campbell Marquess of Argyll vs Klaus Iohannis

Archibald Campbell, Marquess of Argyll, was a leading Covenanter who helped negotiate the Solemn League and Covenant with English Parliamentarians. The treaty allied Scotland with the English Parliament against Charles I, committing both to Presbyterian church government.

Archibald Campbell commanded the Covenanter army at Inverlochy but was defeated by Montrose's Royalists. Campbell escaped the battle but his clan suffered heavy losses. The defeat weakened Covenanter control in the Highlands.

After the Restoration of Charles II, Archibald Campbell was tried for treason and executed at the Mercat Cross in Edinburgh. His head was displayed on the Tolbooth. The execution was part of the royalist backlash against former Covenanters.

Iohannis won the Romanian presidential election as an independent, defeating Prime Minister Victor Ponta. He was the first ethnic German to hold the office since World War II.

Iohannis supported anti-corruption efforts, including the work of the National Anticorruption Directorate. He called for the resignation of Prime Minister Ponta after a deadly nightclub fire, leading to a government change.
