Albert Rivera vs Stepan Shaumyan

Rivera was a founding member of Ciudadanos, a centrist political party initially focused on opposing Catalan nationalism. The party later expanded nationally.

Rivera was elected the first leader of Ciudadanos, guiding its growth from a Catalan party to a national political force.

Under Rivera's leadership, Ciudadanos won 40 seats in the Spanish Congress in the 2015 general election, becoming the third-largest party. This marked the party's peak electoral success.

After a poor performance in the November 2019 general election, where Ciudadanos lost most of its seats, Rivera resigned as party leader. The party's decline was rapid.

Shaumyan was appointed by Lenin as the Extraordinary Commissar for the Caucasus in December 1917, tasked with spreading Bolshevik influence and organizing Soviet power in the region.

Shaumyan led the defense of Baku against the advancing Ottoman Army and Azerbaijani forces from June to September 1918. The city fell on September 15, leading to the collapse of the Baku Commune.

Shaumyan became the chairman of the Baku Council of People's Commissars (the Baku Commune) in April 1918, leading the Bolshevik government in the city. He implemented Soviet policies and organized defense against Ottoman forces.

Shaumyan was captured by anti-Bolshevik forces after the fall of the Baku Commune in September 1918. He was executed by a firing squad near Krasnovodsk along with 25 other commissars, becoming a martyr for the Bolshevik cause.
